I help make ideas come alive.

I work with designers, labels and artists as part of their “technical support”. Basically,  I do the sewing. I’m not a pattern maker, this is an amazing magical skill which certain people hold, and certain people do well. I am not one of them, but I can certainly shoot you in the direction of some of the well regarded experts. I’m also not a mass production factory- this, is another skill where certain people excel.  The thought of a production run of hundreds of garments makes me feel a little ill. My expertise comes with working with a designer in sampling, product development, and small runs. I assist new designers, guiding them through the initial production stages, and established designers wanting to retain a more localised control on small production runs.  I look at each job as a personal interaction, between the designer and maker. This is exactly why I chose to become accredited with Ethical Clothing Australia.

My studio is set up predominately to work with woven fabrics.

Sewing lessons and workshops

I offer sewing lessons on different levels.

Normally I offer one on one sewing lessons tailored to your requirements. I teach what you want to learn, how you want to learn.  My aim is to teach confidence,  in a safe and welcoming space.  Whether you are a beginner, never touched a machine, or brushing up on skills you haven’t used in a while.  Not all classes are equal. I try and work with people to find out the best way for you to learn and feel comfortable and confident. My aim is to be able to offer an accessible, inclusive sewing space. While my space is not currently fully accessible to everyone due to studio location, please get in touch to discuss alternative opportunities.

I also offer small project based sewing workshops, where we focus on a specific skill to learn while making something together.. Past examples are cushions, bags, and robes.

Another opportunity for people is the monthly “Idea development days”, where the studio is opened up to a limited number of students, to make use of the space and equipment.
