I help make ideas come alive.
I predominately work with independent designers and small labels as part of their “technical support”. Basically, I do the sewing. I’m not a pattern maker, this is an amazing magical skill which certain people hold, and certain people do well. I am not one of them, but I can certainly shoot you in the direction of some of the good ones. I’m also not a mass production factory- this also, is another skill where certain people excel. The thought of a production run of hundreds of garments makes me feel a little ill. My expertise comes with working with a designer in sampling, product development, and small runs. I look at each job as a personal interaction, between the designer and maker.
Sewing lessons and workshops
I offer sewing lessons on different levels. but due to the current lockdown in Melbourne unfortunately all workshops and lessons are on hold- but please stay in touch. I’ve recently started some distance lessons- working with a student via zoom. Yes, its a little bit trickier, but it’s possible!!
Normally I offer one on one sewing lessons tailored to your requirements. I teach what you want to learn, how you want to learn. My aim is to teach confidence, in a safe and welcoming space. Whether you are a beginner, never touched a machine, or brushing up on skills you haven’t used in a while. Not all classes are equal. I try and work with people to find out the best way for you to learn and feel comfortable and confident.
I also offer project based workshops, where we focus on a specific skill to learn while making something together.. Past examples are cushions, bags, and robes.
Another opportunity for people is the monthly “Idea development days”, where the studio is opened up to a limited number of students, to make use of the space and equipment.
Special projects need special chats. Get in touch to see what’s possible.
